Job Summary: This Senior Geneticist position will contribute to successfully running and optimizing Benchmark Genetics internal and external breeding programs. This will include a contribution to genetic and genomic evaluations for Benchmark Genetics’ salmon program, as well as contributing to External Services contracts. This person will undertake genetic and genomic analyses, and deliver outputs, to support the successful delivery of these programs and projects. This will include contributing to Benchmark Genetics’ genotyping services and analyses to support clients. The person is also expected to participate in relevant R&D projects actively. This position is part of Benchmark Genetics’ technical genetics and R&D team which consists of approximately 25 scientists. The position will involve collaboration across external and internal breeding programs and genotyping projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake program/project management and technical genetics analysis     
  • Analyses of genomic and sequence data      
  •  Contribute to the management and analysis of data      
  • Contribute to genetic and genotyping external services     
  • Active involvement in relevant internal and external R&D activities for possible future implementation      
  •  Participate in active collaboration across Benchmark Genetics’ technical and wider teams

Qualifications and experience

  •  A higher degree in applied genetics (animal breeding/statistics/genomics or other relevant areas)
  • Knowledge and experience of breeding programs in livestock and/or aquaculture species
  • Knowledge and experience of genetic and genomic evaluations in breeding programs
  • Knowledge and experience in genotyping and genomics, and the application of genomics within breeding programs
