R&D Licenses

Results from field studies

Research serves as the foundation for our aquaculture breeding initiatives, encompassing both fundamental and applied studies. We hold two research permits from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, conducted in partnership with SalMar and SinkabergHansen, to document and showcase our research findings at a commercial scale. Our work in research and innovation within these licenses dates back to 2015, and on this page you will find detailed information about our research locations, along with documentation from experiments and exciting preliminary results.

About our work

Benchmark Genetics Norway (formerly Akvaforsk Genetics Center AS) was awarded two research permits (MSV20 and NTNR62) in 2015, valid until spring 2025. The research permits, along with the production of experimental groups, are managed in collaboration with SalMar and SinkabergHansen, who bring extensive experience in large-scale research operations. Our research permits, along with the strong collaborative position, affords us a unique opportunity to design and perform large-scale trials in order to further the understanding of genetics and salmon breeding.

Test sites

We collaborate with commercial producers and research institutions to generate commercially representative results of the highest quality. Our experiments take place at locations along the entire coast, ensuring that our findings are representative for most grow-out regions in Norway.
