At 11:14 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20th, a volcanic eruption began in the Sundhnúks crater series near Grindavík in the Reykjanes area. While the eruption has impacted the Grindavík road, all other key infrastructure—including energy, hot water, and air transport—remains unaffected.
Benchmark Genetics Iceland’s facilities, located at a safe distance from the eruption area, operate as normal and are well prepared for any risks associated with volcanic activities due to comprehensive contingency plans.
According to local media (RÚV), the eruption activity is already subsiding, and we do not anticipate any disruptions to our operations.
