Lønningdal

The heart of our breeding program for the SalmoBreed strain is based in Lønningdal, a 45 min drive south of the city of Bergen. Every year, the 350 families that make up our breeding nucleus is produced in these beautiful surroundings. Previously used as a research station for salmon feed, the Lønningdal facility was acquired by Benchmark in 2015 and transformed into a modern breeding facility.

At Lønningdal, the families are kept in small separate tanks until their size is about 20 gr. Then its time to individually pit-tag each fish for future identification. The fish stays in the facility until they are smolts and ready to be shipped to our Benchmark Genetics Salten facility or to our partners where they will grow into the next generation of broodstock.
